I was born in a castle dungeon in Brazil—which sounds like the beginning of a fantasy story, but it’s just where mine started.

I’m Rafael Hohmann, a Brazilian-American epic fantasy author obsessed with building worlds that feel real—filled with complex people, strange cultures, and monsters that don’t stay on the page. I didn’t grow up with much, but I grew up with stories. I taught myself English by reading whatever I could get my hands on in the basement of a restaurant while my mom worked 14-hour shifts, and by the time I was nine, I was already writing my own.

That hunger never really left. I spent years writing, experimenting, and sharing stories anywhere I could—until one of those stories turned into SunRider, a novel that went on to become a #1 bestseller and launched my career as an author. Since then, I’ve published multiple books, worked with incredible mentors, and taught writers around the world how to build stories of their own.
